		<description>I&#039;m active in a message board for a magazine that made a similar decision.  They changed it so you could only post if you were a paying subscriber to the magazine.  This was a niche market (I&#039;d say similar but maybe slightly smaller than a language learning community) and in the end they had to re-open the board to everyone because of the loss of activity.</description>

		<description>I believe only the comments on each individual podcast are closed. The number of comments haven&#039;t seemed to have changed much since the switch so it might not be a big deal. It&#039;s still too early to tell but maybe nothing will really change in terms of activity on the site. They probably have a better idea on whether free members ever contributed anything back. I could be just overly worried about this.</description>

		<description>Yikes, I agree.  I don&#039;t mind paying for subscriptions, as I happily pay the $25/month to have full access to JapanesePod101 (which I like pretty well), but closing off the forums seems insane.</description>
