Re: Member pics
Dunno why really actually... just didn't picture you as the gruff looking type; more a feeling than anything analytical. Less gruff usually means less old looking so... *shrug*

Well, you have good intuition. I do wear a beard like my brother (because I am too lazy to shave everyday), but I am slightly younger and less gruff in appearance.
For members of a community that is oft accused of being the unwashed lard-ass type, we're 4/4 for defying the stereotype. I'd say we all look fit, and above all normal so far
Or maybe it's only the fakers that get that stereo type? The "oh man that's so choh kuhwai, ne"... I'm sure you know of what I speak.
thats me, a few years ago...

大笑い. All too well... tsk... I get shit from my friends and brother for studying Japanese and for now and again watching anime because of the stereotype. The unwashed lard-asses give us a bad name.
I find that many stereotypes are absolute garbage, myself. For example, most gay men I have known behave completely normally (in fact, many are more masculine than the average straight guy). Some studies suggest that as much as 10% of the population may be gay, but how many flaming gay men have you met in your life? Probably only a handful. However, if you have met 10,000 men in your life, you have met 1,000 gay men, if the study's findings are accurate. The ones over whom you can't roast a marshmallow, people just assume to be straight.
The flamers and queens give gay men and us bisexual men a bad name. (edit: When I say 'us,' I am not referring to anyone on this board besides myself. I just wanted to clarify for anyone who might be reading this who doesn't know that Faumdano et al are straight)
I blame the popular media for these misconceptions and prejudices. (and why not? Everyone else is doing it.)

A small pic, but a recent one! This is my daughter (yes, half-Japanese..) and I in Japan a month or so back. I travel a lot with work
and I'm lucky enough to get back there about once every month or so.

And a shot from 2 weeks back on a trip down Highway 1 with some colleagues. we took the coast road down from San Francisco down to Hollywood.

Well, my younger sister got herself a new digital camera and I inherited her old one. So, I thought why not use it as an excuse to resurrect this thread. Sorry the setting is somewhat less than exciting ![]()
I feel like I have a serial killer look or something going on in the third pic
In any case, all you other people - more pics!!

Nice safe material there on the screen in 1073
(and that looks to be the tome on the desk)

Yeah that's the tome in question to the left in the picture
Quite the beast of a book. My cat is far from a 子猫 I think he must be nearing or even over 10 years old now... hmm. In any case let's see some pics of others.
Oh, I forgot I had this one kicking around... me and a few friends out for a couple (well... more than a couple considering it was my birthday and all) drinks on my birthday this past April.

Ok, that's enough of my mug in this thread for a while...
[Photos were too big; uploaded smaller versions; all under 240 kB now.]
Wow, Faumdano, you look a lot different that I half expected. You see, I have this problem where I associate avatar photos with people, so I was picturing you as a male version of Lucy (at least that's who I think I see in your avatar).
Well since someone else performed the necromancy . . . I guess I'll grace you all with my visage and environment as well. =P
In approximate date order:
My room ー centered on the computer desk
Server ー a legacy from when I thought playing with computers was fun
Narcissism - um, it was a staff photo for a science camp that I worked at
Desk #2 ー the other desk in my room
Generator - this was a demo project for the science camp
What!? I grew long hair?! ー probably only one of three photographs evincing such
Which way? ー trying to scramble up the Middle Sister in Canmore
Going hiking ー the mop is gone!
Webcam! ー okay, okay, so I don't actually have a web camera, but I tried to simulate one, albeit one with unusual definition

What's your ancestry? Totally not what I expected either
You look almost half asian to me in one or two of those photos.
In varies somehow. Apparently it depends a lot on what I'm wearing and how I do my hair that day. Somedays everyone thinks I look asain and other days no one seems too.
I think my dad's family's is from Borneo and my mom is from Delaware (east coast US state). So, all-in-all, I'm part Irish, part German, part English, part Malaysian, part Iroquois (1/128?), part whatever else, and 100% Canadian. ^_^

For some reason it feels rather odd when people refer to me as asian. I was born and grew up in what my friends and I called White Suburban Utopia (Sherwood Park); all my friends are of European ancestry; my parent's friends were all WASPs; pretty much everyone in my high school was too (in grade 12, we were like, "Wow! There's a black kid in our school now!"; we were half-joking, but only half; and I can only think of one student in my year who looked asian (about 300 people graduated that year)).

From the pics you posted it just seemed to me you had a hint of that particular look that asian-white mixes often have. My highschool too was daaaamn white. The past 5 years at university though have been like a bizzaro version of my highschool
I'm usually the only white guy around when out with my friends.

Oh lawdy this is one of the more recent photos of me. I shall post another one later.
He's a silly cat
He'd probably love for you to. Hell, he meows at me simply because he wants to lie down on me and purr ![]()
I'll have to find some more recent pictures, but for right now here are a few pictures.

You look a lot like one of my friends from university
I think it's probably because of your long hair in those pics or something.
Ah! Now the avatar makes sense. For some reason the name "scout" had conjured boy-scout like images in my head. Iconoclasm is always appreciated. ^_^
Faumdano: I almost forgot to mention ... you seem to have very good taste in computer cases.
(It's a pretty bad camera phone picture, but here's my workspace.)
