Topic: Advanced Volitional - Negative Volitional

The explanation of how to form the negative volitional with まい seems to be incomplete and at least one of the examples in error:

Using 「まい」 to express a will to not do something

    * Attach 「まい」 to the end of the verb
      例) 見る → 見るまい
      例) 行く → 行くまい
    * You can also add 「まい」 to the stem
      例) する → しまい
      例) 認める → 認めまい
    * This conjugation must always come last. For masu-form, attach 「まい」 to the masu-form verb.
      例) なる → なり → なります → なりますまい

However, according to Daijisen:

[助動][○|○|まい|(まい)|○|○]五段活用動詞・助動詞「ます」の終止形、五段活用以外の動詞・助動詞「せる」「させる」「れる」「られる」「しめる」の未然形に付く。ただし、サ変では「せ」のほか「し」の形の未然形や、終止形「す」「する」にも付き、また、カ変は終止形「く」「くる」に付くこともある。

So the first part should become "Attach 「まい」 to the end of u-verbs" and 見る replaced with another verb, and the second part become "Attach 「まい」 to the stem of ru-verbs", and make special mention of how to use it with 来る and する.

Re: Advanced Volitional - Negative Volitional

This is very informative. I've used that grammar so seldom, I guess I didn't really know all the rules!
yikes

Though I did manage to instinctively get all the example sentences correct. wink

Also, what about the polite negative volitional?  I have NEVER heard it in a year and a half of really sweating it out here, but Japanese grammar appears to be fairly well-laid out with respect to completeness.

The guide has been updated with the correct rules.
