Topic: An error in Hiragana page.

I found an error in this page: http://www.guidetojapanese.org/hiragana.html

Under The Small 「や」、「ゆ」、and 「よ」 , Notes, point 3.

According to the website provided in that page, じゃ、じゅ and じょ aren't pronounced / jya / jyu / jyo / but / ja / ju / jo /.

Re: An error in Hiragana page.

It's not an error... there are quite a few different ローマ字 schemes, those just happen to be from two different systems. Though it would be best to choose one system for consistency's sake tongue (in the guide that is).

Re: An error in Hiragana page.

I think Saifo's point was that the text seems to be implying that they are pronounced jya, jyu, and jyo, not merely romanized that way. The text doesn't actually say that, but it's what pretty much anybody who reads it is going to conclude unless they already know otherwise.

Re: An error in Hiragana page.

Try pronouncing じゃ as jya (dʒja in IPA) and ja (dʒa in IPA): there's not a lot of difference. However, most English speakers (including me, many moons ago) have a terrible time with the (IPA) "j" ("yes"→"jes") sound after consonants: eg, きょうと becomes kijoːto instead of kjoːto.
