Towards the first panel. I can understand but can't make sense of that にと.

Image doesn't work.

人生は一箱のマッチに似ている。重大に扱うのはばかばかしい。しかし重大に扱わなければ危険である。
Life is like a box of matches. To treat it seriously is just crazy. However, if you don't treat it seriously, then there's a danger.

Re: 「にと」ってナ~ニ

Really? I'll write it out.

カメをたすけた孫悟空お礼にとそのカメがつれてきたこのじいさんはいったい?・・・

Sentence makes sense, however (being a perfectionist), I want to understand what that にと is.

Re: 「にと」ってナ~ニ

It is a quote. Edited: The tortoise brings master Roshi as thanks for helping the tortoise.

財布を拾ってくれた礼にと彼に1万円あげた

It is kind of similar like へと. Adding a quote kind of subtly highlight the reward.

Re: 「にと」ってナ~ニ

I think you split the sentence at the wrong point.

お礼に+と not にと.

Re: 「にと」ってナ~ニ

Ack! The quotation particle!

Thank you so much. I have a friend of mine (仁美) with me all the time, and she couldn't really explain it to me. Can't blame her, there's tons of stuff in English where I take the easy route explaining to her and say "It's English, you just gotta get used to it"

Re: 「にと」ってナ~ニ

New question! This one is no joke, really hard (I even saw a Japanese site with someone asking this question, and the reply seemed more like an opinion).

The scene is: Naruto (as Sasuke, 変化) leaves Sakura abruptly. The REAL Sasuke comes around and she believes it's the Sasuke from earlier. Waiting for him eagerly, she says:

もう!サスケ君たら!シャイなアンチクショーなんだから!

「アンチクショー」って, that is really throwing me off...

Re: 「にと」ってナ~ニ

「シャイなあんちくしょう」...「恥ずかしがり」の、あの「卑劣な人」!
「シャイなこんちくしょう」...「恥ずかしがり」の、この「卑劣な人」!

Re: 「にと」ってナ~ニ

Interesting... but, 卑劣 seems to be a pretty colder word, right? Sakura is MADLY in love with Sasuke. Is it a kind of ironic double meaning? Like how かわいそう can be used to show sarcasm?

Yes, you made a sound guess.

In particular, a word written in Kana often implies a different meaning as opposed to the original word in Kanji.
"アンチクショー" is not "あん畜生" in this case, so you should get it as something like "憎めない人 : someone who is impossible to hate" in this sentence.

Re: 「にと」ってナ~ニ

Ah, I see! So the translation could be something like, "Oh, Sasuke you shy little bastard~", but in a really nice way? I would assume it's mainly a Japanese thing, and this wouldn't fly too well in English conversations, unless they knew each other very well, haha.

Thanks again, everyone.

Re: 「にと」ってナ~ニ

I've come  to another interesting little word in Katakana.

カカシ先生のニンニン忍者豆知識

I'm not too sure what the ニンニン is...

Re: 「にと」ってナ~ニ

It looks like it's a made up word that goes with ninja.  If it has a definition, I would assume is specific to whatever anime or manga it came from.
