By watching animes, there were two instances I think, I've heard はず being used with the negative verb.

~はいないはず。 and also ~はないはず。

Could it be that ない and いない were treated like adjectives for the grammar to work, or is it that, I wasn't listening very hard and these constructions are simply incorrect?
