There are also other two handy shortcuts in MS IME besides alt + ~ :
- alt + caps lock will switch to full-width katakana mode.
- ctrl + caps lock will switch to hiragana mode.
Good old alt + shift, which switches language input modes and keyboard layouts altogether, is quite useful too.

On a sidenote, is it even possible to remap some of my keys into the extra keys present in japanese keyboards? I've never found a program which does that, tried doing it manually in the registry too, but it didn't work.
