Personally, I really don&#8217;t believe in all that mumbo-jumbo but we still have to deal with it because it&#8217;s often used in everyday Japanese to describe your mind-set or feelings. In fact, the characters for your emotional feelings \u300c\u6c17\u6301\u3061\u300d means \u300c\u6c17\u300d that is held&#8221; and your physical feelings \u300c\u6c17\u5206\u300d also contains the same \u300c\u6c17\u300d character.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m going to go over some of the most useful and basic ways to use your \u300c\u6c17\u300d and I don&#8217;t mean fireballs and kung-fu moves. Rather, I&#8217;ve compiled a list of common expressions that you can use to describe your \u300c\u6c17\u300d. Though making a list of expressions is not usually not my kind of thing, these are so useful and simple (and for some reason often neglected in the classroom) that I feel it&#8217;s worth the time to list and describe them. Also, these kinds of expressions are very hard to find in the dictionary unless you almost already know what you&#8217;re looking for.<\/p>\n<h2>\u300c\u6c17\u300d with verbs so basic, your grandma can use it<\/h2>\n<p>Putting aside the image of your grandma firing off <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hadouken\"><i>hadokens<\/i><\/a>, here is a list of \u300c\u6c17\u300d expressions with the most simple and basic verbs. I&#8217;ve tried to interpret some of the literal meanings as a aid in memorizing what all these kinds of \u300c\u6c17\u300d means.<\/p>\n<ol style=\"font-size: 1em;\">\n<li>\u6c17\u306b\u3059\u308b &#8211; Means to worry about something. It is almost always used in the negative to say, &#8220;Don&#8217;t worry about it&#8221;. The meaning is similar to \u300c\u5fc3\u914d\u3057\u306a\u3044\u3067\u300d except \u300c\u5fc3\u914d\u300d involves actual worry and anxiety. \u300c\u6c17\u306b\u3057\u306a\u3044\u300d means don&#8217;t even bother paying attention to it or wasting your \u300c\u6c17\u300d.<br \/>\n<blockquote><p>\n\uff11\uff09\u3000\u6c17\u306b\u3057\u306a\u3044\u3067 &#8211; Don&#8217;t worry about it.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/li>\n<li>\u6c17\u306b\u306a\u308b &#8211; Similar to \u300c\u6c17\u306b\u3059\u308b\u300d except instead of bothering about something, it&#8217;s becoming a bother. In other words, it&#8217;s something that is niggling your subconscious and making you wonder about something.<br \/>\n<blockquote><p>\n\uff11\uff09\u3000\u5f7c\u5973\u306e\u6b73\u304c\u6c17\u306b\u306a\u308b\u3002 &#8211; I wonder what her age is. (lit: Her age has been bothering me.)\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/li>\n<li>\u6c17\u304c\u3059\u308b &#8211; Your \u300c\u6c17\u300d is acting up and alerting your senses. As a result, you have a feeling of whatever you attach \u300c\u6c17\u304c\u3059\u308b\u300d to.<br \/>\n<blockquote><p>\n\uff11\uff09\u3000\u3082\u3046\u7d42\u308f\u3063\u305f\u6c17\u304c\u3059\u308b\u3002- I have a feeling that [it] already ended.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/li>\n<li>\u6c17\u304c\u3064\u304f \uff08\u6c17\u3065\u304f\uff09 &#8211; Your \u300c\u6c17\u300d attaches to you making you regain consciousness in the literal sense or in a figurative sense of just waking up and smelling the coffee.<br \/>\n<blockquote><p>\n\uff11\uff09\u3000\u6c17\u304c\u3064\u3044\u305f\u3089\u3001\u3082\u3046\uff19\u6642\u306b\u306a\u3063\u3066\u3044\u305f\u3002 &#8211; When I came to my senses, it had become 9:00 already.<br \/>\n\uff12\uff09\u3000\u5f7c\u306f\u5168\u7136\u6c17\u3065\u3044\u3066\u3044\u306a\u3044\u3002 &#8211; He doesn&#8217;t realize (or hasn&#8217;t noticed) it at all.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/li>\n<li>\u6c17\u3092\u3064\u3051\u308b &#8211; Attach your \u300c\u6c17\u300d and always keep your wits about you. In other words, be careful.<br \/>\n<blockquote><p>\n\uff11\uff09\u3000\u6c17\u3092\u3064\u3051\u3066\uff01 &#8211; Be careful!\/Take care!\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/li>\n<li>\u6c17\u3092\u3064\u304b\u3046 &#8211; Use your \u300c\u6c17\u300d to pay attention to or attend to somebody. A good host always uses her \u300c\u6c17\u300d for her guests and their needs.<br \/>\n<blockquote><p>\n\uff11\uff09\u3000\u6c17\u3092\u3064\u304b\u3063\u3066\u304f\u308c\u3066\u3001\u3042\u308a\u304c\u3068\u3046\uff01 &#8211; Thanks for caring about me!\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/li>\n<li>\u6c17\u306b\u3044\u308b &#8211; This is a curious one as it uses the not-so-common \u300c\u3044\u308b\u300d reading of \u300c\u5165\u308b\u300d. It is usually used in the past tense as \u300c\u6c17\u306b\u5165\u3063\u305f\u300d, literally meaning something entered your \u300c\u6c17\u300d. This essentially means it came to your liking. It&#8217;s a shorter, easier, and more casual way to say the same thing as \u300c\u597d\u304d\u306b\u306a\u3063\u305f\u300d. If you use a Japanese browser, you might also have noticed that the bookmarks are called \u300c\u6c17\u306b\u5165\u308a\u300d.<br \/>\n<blockquote><p>\n\uff11\uff09\u3000\u3053\u308c\u3001\u6c17\u306b\u5165\u3063\u305f\u3088\u3002 &#8211; This has come to my liking.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>(Thanks Florian for suggesting this one be added to the list.)\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Conclusion<\/h2>\n<p>I&#8217;ve tried to keep my list short and simple to prevent this from becoming a monster list with too much information. However, if you&#8217;re in the mood, you can scroll through a huge list by going to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.csse.monash.edu.au\/~jwb\/cgi-bin\/wwwjdic.cgi?1C\">WWWJDIC<\/a>, search for \u300c\u6c17\u300d and set the checkmark for &#8220;Starting Kanji&#8221;. You&#8217;ll get all sorts of useful expressions like \u300c\u6c17\u304c\u5f37\u3044\u300d\u3001\u300c\u6c17\u304c\u5411\u304f\u300d\u3001\u300c\u6c17\u304c\u6563\u308b\u300d\u3001etc., etc. Someday, you can become a master of at least <i>talking<\/i> about your \u300c\u6c17\u300d without even having to work out!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u300c\u6c17\u300d is a kind of energy embodied by your mind and spirit&#8230; or so they say.
