Basically, your mouth when pronouncing &#8220;who&#8221; (as in &#8220;Doctor Who&#8221;) is an open circle while &#8220;fu&#8221; (as in &#8220;kung fu&#8221;) is completely closed with your top teeth touching your bottom lip. However, \u300c\u3075\u300d lies directly in between the two sounds almost as if you&#8217;re trying to pronounce both at the same time. In practice, probably nobody will really notice anything wrong if you pronounce it as just &#8220;fu&#8221;. Incidentally, this is the sound for words like &#8220;Fuji&#8221; and &#8220;futon&#8221; so obviously we hear it as &#8220;fu&#8221; and not &#8220;hu&#8221;.<\/p>\n<h2>Reading Practice<\/h2>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a list of other vocab you should read over for some simple reading practice. Once again, don&#8217;t worry about memorizing the definitions.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\u3075\u304f &#8211; clothes<\/li>\n<li>\u306f\u3053 &#8211; box<\/li>\n<li>\u307b\u3057 &#8211; star<\/li>\n<li>\u3075\u305f &#8211; lid<\/li>\n<li>\u3078\u3044 &#8211; soldier<\/li>\n<li>\u3072\u304f &#8211; to pull<\/li>\n<li>\u3075\u3048 &#8211; flute<\/li>\n<li>\u3078\u305f &#8211; unskillful<\/li>\n<li>\u3081 &#8211; eye<\/li>\n<li>\u3046\u307f &#8211; sea<\/li>\n<li>\u306e\u3080 &#8211; to drink<\/li>\n<li>\u304d\u3082\u306e &#8211; kimono<\/li>\n<li>\u3044\u307e &#8211;\u00a0now<\/li>\n<li>\u307e\u3081 &#8211; bean<\/li>\n<li>\u307f\u307f &#8211; ear<\/li>\n<li>\u304b\u3082 &#8211; duck<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you&#8217;re new to this series, check out my previous posts under the &#8220;Japanese from Scratch&#8221; category.
