Japanese study 2014 recap

WHAT???? It’s already well into 2015??? Where does the time go?? Obviously, I haven’t been studying as much this year or OMG maybe the number of words I need to learn is going down? NAH! That can’t be it. But anyways, in 2014, I ran into 152 new words that I was too newb at Japanese to know already or just can’t quite seem to memorize completely. That’s not even half a word a day! Tsk Tsk.

Some words I learned last year from my Twitter account.

Crazy commercials (of course)
Anime songs (of course)
Common sayings in anime
Some sort of 声優 event?
More anime songs (of course)
And it wouldn’t be the internet without cute animals

  1. Love the site, but was hoping to get some specialized information from you if possible. First a bit about me, I’m a Freshman in high school (9th Grade), and I want to move to Japan after I turn 18. I know this is possible for me, because based on tests and stuff I have a WAY above average intelligence. My only problem is not knowing where to tackle the language from. For now, I’ve learned the meanings for about 400 kanji in a month while balancing my Japanese with schoolwork (AP classes and French 2 Honors at the same time, RIP my social life). I’ve also picked up a copy of Baccano! Volume 1 that I’m reading/learning from.
So I suppose my final question to you is this: In your opinion, what is the most efficient way to attain the highest level of Japanese I can in the 4 year window I have? Please keep in mind that anything is possible, I can even memorize a dictionary cover-to-cover if need be.

  2. For beginners, Romanji is KING. Hiragana and Katakana slows down the learning speed. For beginners, Hiragana and katakana sucks because they are also mixed with Kanji. So it will be better if you guys learn Romangi.

    Thank you,

  3. i found your site during a period when i was ill and couldn’t leave home. it helped me to learn a lot in very short time. i found it really useful, thank you very much
